Heritage Commission Event

 The Diocesan Heritage Commission will formally launch on Saturday 28th May with an event in St Augustine's Parish Hall, Coatbridge. The guest speaker will be Professor Tom Devine of the University of Edinburgh, who will deliver the inaugural lecture.  Registration for the event is free but essential. Mass in the Extraordinary Form of the Roman Rite

 Fr. Liam O’Connor in St. Mary’s, Cleland, will begin a Latin Mass, according to the Missal of 1962. This will hopefully become a regular weekly Mass on a Thursday evening at 7.00pm. It will begin on the 9th of June and take place again on the 16th of June. It will then break for the summer and resume on a weekly basis in August. The Mass is intended for parishioners from throughout the diocese who have a desire to attend.

'The Diaconate - A Call to Serve' is a short video which has been produced to promote the vocation of the Permanent Deacon.In this short video, Permanent Deacons from across Motherwell Diocese give insight into their vocation, talking about what it is like to be a Deacon, what their ministry entails and how they answered God's calling in the first place.Each of the Deacons in this video serve in parishes within our Diocese but many of them also serve in other ministries, including Hospital

The Diocesan Vocations Mass will take place in the cathedral on Monday 31st August at 7.30pm. We have two new seminarians going into first year – one for Rome and a second for Oscott. Both will first attend a short preparatory course in the Royal Scots College, Salamanca.

McLellan Commission

Following the publication earlier today a “Review of Safeguarding Protocols and Procedures” by a Commission chaired by the Very Rev Dr Andrew McLellan, the Catholic Bishops of Scotland have welcomed the report and accepted its recommendations in full. Following the publication of the McLellan Commission report, Bishop Toal released the following pastoral letter. Canon James Foley RIP

  Canon James Foley sadly died on Wednesday 23rd September 2015.   Canon Foley was ordained in 1955 and his first placement was at Motherwell Cathedral where he was assistant priest until 1956. In 1956, he was sent to Scots College Rome for further studies where he remained until 1965. After he completed his studies in Rome, he was placed on the staff at the seminary of St Peter's College, Cardross.  In 1977 he was appointed as parish priest at St. Mary’s Parish in Coatbridge St Mary's, before

Frank Cassidy - Order of St Gregory

Last Saturday,  5th December, Frank Cassidy, the former Chancellor of the Diocese of Motherwell was installed as a Knight of the Order of St Gregory in St John the Baptist' Uddingston. Frank was invested with the insignia of the order in recognition of his long and dedicated service to the Diocese.   Frank is joined after the Mass by Bishop Joseph Toal, Bishop Emeritus Joseph Devine and Father Dominic Towey, Parish Priest of St John's Uddingston.
