  We thank the priests and parishes who have hosted our seminarians from Oscott during their parish placements through January.   We look forward to five of our seminarians being ordained as deacons during 2016; Bernard Mournian and Paul Denney in Rome on Sunday 1st May, and Sean Wylie, Bruce McPhail and John Paul McShane in Oscott on Saturday June 25th. Father Brian Donnelly RIP

Fr. Brian Donnelly was called home to the Father's house on Tuesday 26th January.   Fr. Brian’s mortal remains will be received into Motherwell Cathedral on Thursday evening just before the usual 7.00pm Mass.   Mass of Christian Burial on Friday morning, in Motherwell Cathedral at 12.00noon followed by internment in the priests’ plot in St. Patrick’s, New Stevenston.   May the Lord who chose Fr. Brian to serve Him as priest,  number him among his chosen in heaven.   May he rest in peace and rise

New Mass Setting for the Diocese

Eight musicians from the Diocese of Motherwell met recently to choose a new setting of the Mass which would be sung at major diocesan events and occasions.  From a choice of eight different Mass settings, the one they settled on was the Mass of St. Frances Cabrini, by Kevin Keil. (St. Frances Cabrini is a saint who hailed from North America).   This Mass setting will be taught at a forthcoming music workshop at a date still to be decided.  You can listen to this new setting below.

 All permanent deacons and students for the permanent diaconate are invited to meet on Monday 7th March at 7.30pm in Holy Family Parish Centre, Mossend. The topic for discussion is once again how best to promote the permanent diaconate within the diocese.  At present we have two diaconate students in formation, Alan Brown from St. John the Baptist, Uddingston, and David Harper from St. Mary’s Whifflet, and four now completing the year of discernment, Joe McEachen, George Frame, both from St.

 We pray for the eternal repose of Canon Pat O’Hare, retired priest of this diocese who passed away peacefully in Our Lady, Mother of Mercy Nursing Home, Newry on Thursday 30th March. Canon Pat turned 89 years of age a few days ago, 27th March, and served this diocese from his ordination in 1953 in the following parishes:  St. Barbara’s, Muirhead 1953-1958, Assistant priest St. Bride’s.
